Seating

Dear EHOB,

Here is another success story for one of your products: I was very fortunate to have been the recipient of one of your very special products — the Waffle seat cushion. [The WAFFLE seat cushion], for someone like me who sits for long periods of time, has been a Godsend. I use it while at the computer and take it with me when traveling long distances by car. The difference it makes in comfort is phenomenal.

I can only thank you, your company and your designers for making my life more pleasurable.

I have been using your WAFFLE Cushions (200WCI and 218WCI). They really work. I use it every time I sit. I just ordered a new one and can see the better workmanship. Keep it up!

I have for years had a bedsore and it is nearly well.

Sincerely,

Marian Jones

I want to thank your company for producing such an excellent product. I was introduced to your cushion by my sister’s sister-in-law several years ago. She has had several unsuccessful back surgeries and saw my difficulty trying to sit without pain. She suggested I try hers. I had hip surgery 10 years ago and have been in constant pain ever since.

I could not believe that such a simple idea could give me such relief. I had tried pillows, back cushions, heat, and ice but found no relief until I used this cushion. I now have three, one for the car, one for my desk, and one for the entertainment room. The few problems that I have the company responded with unbelievable promptness and courtesy. Again, thank you. These cushions have improved my daily living tremendously.

Sincerely,

Paul Sazinski

The seat cushion is SUPER! I can’t believe the pain reduction from using this cushion! I normally can’t sit for more than 20 minutes w/o the sciatic pain kicking up.

My husband and I went on a trip and had to use his SUV, which is not a comfortable ride as my Bonneville. The 3-hour trip, turned out to be 6 hours due to rush hour traffic. We made just a few pit stops, however my back was not screaming in pain! I made the 3-hour trip home w/o getting out of the vehicle once, and that has NEVER happened.

I highly recommend this cushion for anyone who has had lumbar surgery, or anyone suffering with sciatic pain when sitting too long. It really relieves the pressure in the lower back area making it more tolerable when sitting for long periods of time.

Sincerely,

Eve Manning

Last month I was given a WAFFLE™ Overlay to try-out. I have been a quadriplegic for 23 years and have tried many mattresses both in the hospital and at home.

I am absolutely amazed and happy with this mattress! First of all, it is so much more comfortable than any others. I like the lower profile — I don’t “fall-off” and it fits under regular sheets. Another bonus is that it is wider and gives me more room for turning. But most importantly, I have had a pressure sore for over two years and in the six weeks that I have been using this mattress, it has made a significant improvement.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to finally experience a mattress that is comfortable, helpful for my skin and so reasonably priced.

Sincerely,
Chris Timmins, San Diego, CA

I have multiple sclerosis which has progressed to an inability to turn in bed. Because of this lack of movement, I am subject and have had severe ulcers on my back. The WAFFLE overlay has been a godsend in relieving pressure on my back and giving me a peaceful comfort to sleep.

I would recommend this product to anyone who wants and needs protection, relief and comfort from bed sores/ulcers.

The mattress and it’s founder deserve a humanitarian award.

Sincerely,

Chris Rize, Massachusetts

I took care of a lady that was in the hospital, she had fallen and broke her shoulder but she required wrappings on her leg, and she has some areas on her bottom. She was not on any type of specialty mattress so I told her about the Waffle Overlay. I placed the mattress on her bed and I told her to let me know if she liked it.When I went back up in a few days to see her, she stated , “I cannot believe that the staff does not use this more,” smiling big and saying; “This mattress is so comfortable.” After the weekend, I came to work and I found out that she had passed away, but what I feel is that we were able to give her a comfortable bed and hopefully made her more at ease while lying in that hospital bed.” October 2009

The WAFFLE® appears to be one of the more useful transfer/positioning assist devices available at IUH. In August 2006 the IUH critical care units adopted a policy of placing every patient on either a WAFFLE® or a specialty bed for pressure ulcer prevention. The multi-use dimension of the product creates useful convenience.

I want to share with you our experience with the Waffle Surgery Table Pad. As you know we are a Free-standing Radiation Therapy Center and provide transperineal interstitial implants of the prostate. Although the actual placement of the catheters is performed in a hospital we typically pick up a patient around 10:00 a.m. and transport to our facilities for CT and radioactive treatments. We usually deliver the first treatment around 2:00 p.m. and must wait 6 hours to deliver the second treatment.

The patient will arrive to the hospital at 5:30 a.m. to be prepped for the procedure. The procedure will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the patient will receive either general or spinal anesthesia. Once the procedure is completed the patient must remain supine until his second treatment is completed around 8:00 p.m. to avoid moving the implant placement. The average patient will be in a supine position for approximately 14 hours creating pressure-points on or near the bony prominences of the body.

Prior to us receiving the Waffle Pad about 90% of our patients would complain of back and/or hip pain. We would provide comfort measures including administering morphine to control the pain and keep the patient comfortable. Since we started using the Waffle Pad only about 10% of patients complain of pain, however, the pain is actually related to the implant device and not to back or hip pressure points. What this pad has done for our patient comfort is simply amazing. We have dramatically decreased the use of morphine for our prostate implant patients. Thank you for providing such a wonderful product.

Heel & Foot Protection

Here are three pictures of a patient’s left heel that has truly benefited from the EHOB Foothold. This is an 84 y.o. female who was in an acute care hospital, and developed a large stage II pressure area on her left medial heel. As you can see from the picture, the blister is filled with dark, gelatinous fluid. After the blister was deroofed, approximately 80% of the open area showed pink, viable tissue. The other 20% presented as a suspected deep tissue injury. After just 4 days of topical treatment to the wound bed, extensive therapy sessions with gait training being done with the Foothold, there is a noted increase in viable tissue, and the DTI has reduced in size. The DTI tissue never became boggy, and has not shown an open area.- Todd
