Keep it Simply Scientific: The Key to Understanding Mechanical Forces Effecting Pressure Ulcer Formation

This presentation offers an overview of the pathophysiology and mechanical forces that effect pressure ulcer formation. Various types of support surface media and their effects on soft tissue are addressed, featuring our unique CT scan analysis. Contouring and flotation will be differentiated and a sample protocol for support surface selection will be identified. Discussion includes the limitations of pressure mapping, and explanation of why a support surface, alone, cannot protect the heel at all times.
