A Lift Team's Approach to Selecting Transferring and Positioning Devices
Terry Hobbs, RN BSN MSA, Clarian Health, Indianapolis
Transferring and positioning patients make up 89% of tasks performed by the Indiana University Hospital (IUH) Lift Team. A study was performed of equipment choices and injury reduction outcomes. The WAFFLE® appears to be one of the more useful transfer/positioning assist devices available at IUH. In August 2006 the IUH critical care units adopted a policy of placing every patient on either a WAFFLE® or a specialty bed for decubitus ulcer prevention. The multi-use dimension of the product creates useful convenience.
